Introducing

The Flag Standard Watch List.

Not every elite player has a full public stat line. The Watch List is where nationally and regionally recognized athletes live until their documented production catches up to their reputation. Once stats are verified, they move into the official position rankings.

★ Watch List
Reputation validated by the outlets that already cover them.
Watch List candidates are drawn from independent recognition — national and regional rankings, established sports media, and confirmed coach nominations. The list opens with the Bay Area rankings drop this fall.

How Rankings Work

Transparent. Earned. Repeatable.

Every ranking is built on a 100-point scoring system with positional weighting, historical performance credit, and clear qualification standards. No pay-to-rank. No hidden inputs.

1
Stats first
Every position has a defined statistical rubric. QBs score on yards, TDs, completion %, and TD:INT ratio. Defenders score on sacks, flag pulls, INTs, and tackle production. Verified against MaxPreps where available, coach-reported where not.
2
Positional weighting
Every position is weighted based on impact per snap. QBs touch the ball every play and carry the highest multiplier. Position rankings within each group stay honest regardless of overall board placement.
3
Star rating
Every ranked player receives a 1-5 star rating calibrated against national elite production. 5-star means national-caliber. 4-star means D1 trajectory. Stars stay rare so they mean something.
Star Rating System

The five tiers.

Star ratings are calibrated against national elite production — not local comparison. Bars are the same for a California player and a Florida player.

★★★★★
National Elite
Production comparable to national record-holders and All-America selections. Rare by design.
★★★★
Division I Caliber
Comparable to production seen from early NCAA commits. Must hit every benchmark, no misses.
★★★★★
College Prospect
Solid production at the varsity level. The majority of qualified players land here.
★★★★★
College Capable
Above qualification threshold but not yet at prospect production levels.
★★★★
Developing
Underclassmen and returning players building toward qualification. Tracked in the database, not yet on the ranked list.

Questions Answered

Everything you need to know.

How rankings work, how to get considered, and what makes The Flag Standard different.

How much does it cost to submit stats?
Free. There is no cost to submit, no subscription, and no premium tier that gives athletes a ranking advantage. Rankings are earned through documented production and coach input only.
What stats do I need to submit?
Depends on your position. Offense (QB/RB/WR): games, passing/rushing/receiving yards, TDs, INTs, completions, attempts. Defense (Rusher/LB, DB/S): games, sacks, flag pulls, TFL, solo tackles, assists, interceptions. A MaxPreps link, coach stat sheet, or screenshot all work.
How are players ranked?
Every player is scored on a 100-point system: current-season stats (up to 40 points), prior-season history bonus (up to 20), coach nominations (up to 20), scout evaluation (up to 15), and multi-source verification (up to 5). Positional weighting then adjusts the total. Ties break by star rating, then primary stat volume, then games played.
What is the Watch List?
A separate list for players whose reputation exceeds their currently documented statistical profile. These athletes carry national or major regional recognition but have incomplete public stat lines. They are ranked separately until data confirms their placement in the main position rankings.
What are the qualification standards?
All positions require 8+ games played. QB: 1,500+ pass yards AND 15+ pass TDs. RB and WR: 500+ total yards. Rusher/LB: 90+ tackles OR 10+ sacks. DB/S: 10+ interceptions. Below-threshold players are tracked as "Developing" and are not counted in the qualified rankings.
When do rankings drop?
Bay Area rankings drop this fall as coverage reaches critical mass. NorCal statewide follows shortly after. Full California statewide launches during the 2026-27 season. Each drop is a distinct release with its own position rankings and Watch List.
I'm a coach — how do I get my whole roster in?
Email info@flagrankings.com with your team stats — a stat sheet, Hudl export, MaxPreps team link, or coach spreadsheet all work. We can bulk-load your program and credit stats as "Coach Reported" until they appear in a public source.
Is the platform free for college coaches?
Yes. College coaches can browse the full rankings, star ratings, and player profiles at no cost. Direct-contact features and film library access are planned for a future release.
